All About Your Aftershave

In this day and age, we have come to know the metrosexual men. Each day, we find out that more and more men have become aware and are conscious of their appearance. Gone are the days when the rough and rugged look was the epitome of being handsome. Imagine guys with unshaven and perhaps even unwashed bearded faces with an aura of sweat and dirt showing each and all that they have toiled and labored and are man enough to show it.

These days however, there are metrosexual men who have proved to be vainer than some women. These metrosexual men never leave the house without taking a bath, some even having two or more showers a day. They apply moisturizers to their face, lotion to smoothen their skin, splash on some cologne to smell good and of course, make sure that they have clean and shaven faces to show the world.

As facial hair can grow quickly with an interval of maybe a day or two, shaving has come to be a habit done three or four times a week. And every time one shaves, the skin surface becomes a lot more sensitive, exposed and vulnerable. Although the skin may look all clean and smooth, touching it is a whole new different matter. When touched, you will feel that the shaven facial area is rough and the pores of the skin have become open. In an effort to close up the pores, what men do is rinse with some cold water then put on their favorite aftershave.

Although splashing on aftershave may give one a stinging sensation however men still prefer the aftershave because after the pain, they get a brisk, stimulating and revitalizing feeling. Also the aftershave has an antiseptic property that works to numb the skin especially if it has been accidentally cut while shaving. The antiseptic is a good agent to ward off infections from the skin. Other than this antiseptic, aftershaves have the ingredient of lotion to smoothen the skin and elements of perfume to leave you smelling cool and clean just like getting fresh from the shower.

There is however a number of different aftershave brands to choose from; one bragging that they are better than the other. It would not be surprising that a first time user, like a budding adolescent, may spend time going back and forth the aftershave isle wondering which to pick up. Some may say that it is not such a big deal. Pick one, any one. Wrong! Yes, there are differences. For one, the prices will definitely be different. But the most important thing to look into is if whether the aftershave is compatible to your skin type. Irritation and rashes may develop if not. The thing is you cannot tell until you have actually tried the product. Your best bet would be to go for a brand that is dermatologically tested.

Then there is the question whether to go for an alcohol based aftershave or a lotion based one. This too is a matter of preference. Comparison tells us that alcohol gives out a refreshing feel but its scent only lasts for a short time, while lotion aftershaves tend to last longer.
